Jennifer Chittenden

Serving as the Executive Director for the Des Moines Downtown Chamber and the Des Moines West Side Chamber of Commerce, Jennifer balances this role with community interests and family.  Through the chamber, Jennifer works together with each chamber’s membership and Board of Directors to carry the voice of its membership and advance member business growth by creating networking events, advocacy, newsletters, and education on community topics and issues.

Among her community involvement, Jennifer sits on the Board of Directors for the Civic Music Association (CMA), is a member of the Rotary Club of Des Moines A.M. and participates on the Programming committee and International committee, serves as a mentor for Drake University’s Leadership Education and Development (LEAD) program, and is a member of the Young Professionals Connection and their Impact Downtown committee.  Jennifer’s previous work experience includes the Cedar Rapids Gazette as a Recruitment Advertising Coordinator, and Tero International as Client Relations Coordinator. Prior volunteer involvement consists of the Board of Directors for the American Society for Training & Development (ASTD) Iowa Chapter, and past Chair of the Public Relations committee for Central Iowa Shelter & Services.  Jennifer is a graduate of the West Des Moines Leadership Academy, recipient of a Bronze Quill award from the International Association of Business Communicators Iowa Chapter, recognized with a Share Our Success award from National ASTD, and spoke at the National ASTD Chapter Leaders Conference in 2011 on the topic of creating strategic partnerships.

Jennifer enjoys time with her family, running, and playing flute in the Greater Des Moines Community Band.  Her husband, Aaron, is Assistant to the City Manager with the City of West Des Moines.  They have two children, Dante (8), and Alexandria (5).
