Curriculum

WDMLA 2013-14 Schedule

The 2013-2014 West Des Moines Leadership Academy curriculum is comprised of three progressive steps: Leading Self, Leading Others and Community Awareness. The program will include an orientation session, nine classes incorporating different learning methodologies with a focus on experiential learning and class participation, a class project and a graduation event that serves as a capstone for the year.

Leading Self will focus on self-assessment and exploration, tapping into individual strengths and talents, and reflecting on each participant’s leadership point-of-view.

Leading Others will focus on team development and the coaching, influencing and interpersonal communication skills necessary to lead and participate effectively in a group setting.

Community Awareness will enrich our participants’ knowledge of and investment in the community by asking them to partake in challenging and fun experiential events that touch on education, government, human services, economic development and nonprofit services in the community.

Classes, events, and social experiences will be held at a variety of locations, primarily in the West Des Moines area with some exceptions taking us out into the greater Des Moines community. The class will be held once a month for nine months from approximately 8:30 am to 4:30 pm with additional networking opportunities and alumni-inclusive events offered after hours. The nine sessions are preceded by an orientation and conclude with a graduation event
